Microsoft Discontinuing SBC Support

Microsoft has announced that on December 1, 2019 they will discontinue support for using Session Border Controllers (SBC) to connect third-party PBX systems to Exchange Online Unified Messaging (UM). In light of Microsoft’s end-of-support announcement, many Microsoft customers are forced to seek an alternative Unified Messaging solution for Office 365 that can connect to their existing on-premises PBX.

Exchange 2019 Will No Longer Have UM

Microsoft has announced that Exchange Server 2019 will no longer include Unified Messaging support. This forces customers using an on-premises PBX who wish to upgrade to Exchange 2019 to either switch to a third party UM solution or replace their PBX with Skype for Business Enterprise and start using Microsoft’s Cloud Voicemail solution.
